ارم ذات العماد قدیم عرب قوم عاد کے مرکزی شہر کا نام تھا۔یہ شہر طوفانِ نوح کے کافی بعد بسا اور زبردست ترقی کر گیا۔ اس وقت لوگ طوفانِ نوح کو بھول کر دوبارہ شرک اور بت پرستی کی طرف راغب ہو گئے تھے۔ اس قوم پر حضرت ھود علیہ السلام کو نبی بنا کر بھیجا گیا تھا۔ جب اس قوم نے شرک اور بت پرستی ترک نہ کی تو اللہ نے عذاب نازل کر کے اسے تباہ کر دیا۔
